Health & Safety Prosecution
Public Statement Following Health & Safety Prosecution
Castle Combe Circuit is a trusted and responsible employer with an accident-free history, and takes its duty of care for the safety of its staff as a matter of paramount importance. We are pleased to note that the learned Judge made particular reference to the high premium which is properly placed on our safety record.
We want to stress that this incident happened despite safety training and stringent procedures which had raised no cause for concern or complaint in the past.
As a small family company we are dedicated to the personal safety of all our staff and volunteers in the workplace, and our procedures have always been regularly reviewed by management as well as being monitored by the health and safety authorities.
This is the first incident of this kind to be recorded in our 60-year history and we are devastated by the accident involving Dave Johnson, who has been a valued and hard-working member of our team for almost 20 years.
The prompt and correct action of one of his colleagues, who is a trained first aider, ensured that he was as comfortable as possible, and his airway was maintained, whilst waiting for the ambulance.
Our sympathies and best wishes go out to Dave and his family and friends. We would also like to thank the emergency services for all they have done for him.
As a result of this incident we have, naturally, carried out a complete review of all of our health and safety systems to further enhance the safety framework at our Circuit. We would like to thank the council for their assistance in completing this task.
Meanwhile we will continue to review and update our health and safety systems in the light of any changing circumstances to ensure that our impeccable safety record is not compromised in the future.
