WORLD-FAMOUS WELSHMEN LINE UP AT RALLYDAY
Two of rallying’s most successful Welshmen will help make this month’s Rallyday an unmissable occasion for fans.
Twenty-one time world rally winner Nicky Grist will be joined by three-time British Rally Champion Matt Edwards at Castle Combe on Saturday September 17.
As an added treat for those making the journey to the popular Wiltshire tack, Grist will bring his factory-specification Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD for both of them to drive.
In a 21-year World Rally Championship career Nicky started 128 events and built some incredible memories. He’ll be sharing those memories of time alongside such greats as Colin McRae and Juha Kankkunen at Rallyday.
“Rallyday’s one of the really big days of the year,” said Nicky. “It’s a great time to come and see the fans, to catch up with people and, of course to watch some of the sport’s best ever cars in action.
“Driving my Toyota is something I’m really looking forward to. The ST185 Celica is a car which has some amazing memories for me – it’s the car I was in when I won a WRC round for the first time (alongside Kankkunen at the 1993 Rally Argentina).
“I look forward to seeing plenty of people around the track and in the paddock area. There’s always lots to talk about and this year will be no different.”
As the only driver to win three successive British titles (albeit split by a COVID-cancelled 2020 season), Matt will have lots to talk about as well.
“I think fans around Europe know about Rallyday – it’s a big deal,” he said. “So to have the chance to come along and, like Nicky said, see some great cars and maybe even get the chance to drive one or two is really cool.
“I’m sure it’s going to be a great day. I’ve heard a few of Nicky’s stories from his time at the top and fighting for the [world] championship, but I’m sure he’s got a few more up his sleeve. I’m looking forward to listening to those and telling a few of my own.”
Castle Combe managing director Graham Marshallsay is delighted to welcome both famous Welshmen across the Severn Bridge.
“Nicky and Matt have such standing and have achieved such success in the world of rallying, it’s fantastic to have them with us,” said Graham.
“There’s no doubt Saturday September 17 is shaping up to be an absolute cracker of a Rallyday. We’ve got some awesome cars coming from BGMsport and, for the first time ever, we’ve got not one, but two Legend Stages running simultaneously.
“Rallyday will, once again, be the most amazing demonstration of all things rallying at the end of next week. We look forward to seeing everybody there.”
