‘VOICE OF F1’ BEN EDWARDS JOINS WEDNESDAY’S COMBE TV CHAT

During this unprecedented period of uncertainty in the UK and beyond, the Castle Combe Circuit team is livening things up for motorsport fans with ‘Combe TV’ – a Facebook Live show that airs every Wednesday and Sunday at 7pm.

Hosted by Sales and Marketing Director, Tom Davis, and the circuit’s leading commentator, Chris Dawes, Combe TV invites special guests along as the hosts discuss all things Castle Combe and motorsport.

We’re pleased to announce that Channel 4’s very own F1 commentator, Ben Edwards, will be on the show set to air on Wednesday, 13 May!

ABOUT BEN EDWARDS

Ben is undoubtedly the current ‘voice of F1,’ commentating on the prestigious sport for Channel 4 after a four-year stint performing the same job with the BBC.

A racer himself, he started in Formula Fords in 1987 – a series he is still involved in – competing at Castle Combe Circuit regularly, including as recently as 2019 when he took part in the circuit's very own Formula Ford Championship on Easter Monday's Howard’s Day meeting.

He went on to race across Europe in the Formula Vauxhall Lotus Championship, up against the likes of Hakkinen, McNish and Coulthard. By 1992, he’d won the Caterham Vauxhall title, but his career as a commentator was beginning to take over.

His work behind the microphone really began in the commentary box at Brands Hatch where he learned from the legendary Brian Jones. TV opportunities were scarce, but it was with Eurosport in 1991 that he started on a path that would lead to his big break: in 1995 he was selected to become lead English language commentator on Eurosport's F1 coverage alongside John Watson.

When Eurosport lost the F1 rights in 1997, he covered Champ Car racing in the States and then 10 years of the British Touring Car Championship for ITV. In 2002, he spent another year commentating F1 for the Sky+ Digital service.

He went on to work on A1GP, the GT World Championship, Le Mans and Superleague Formula, while also voicing the highlights of British F3 and GT for several years on Channel 4. In 2012, he became the BBC's F1 commentator alongside David Coulthard.
