It’s safe to say that without volunteer marshals, motorsport across the country and beyond would simply cease to exist.

Instantly recognisable by their bright outfits and often affectionately referred to as the ‘Orange Army’, the Castle Combe Marshalling Team is without doubt one of the finest in the country. And they’re always looking for new recruits!

It’s why the venue hosts its annual Marshal Training Day – a free-to-enter event that aims to inform and train those interested in this rewarding job just what’s involved. And 2019’s date has now been confirmed for 17 March.

From working in the pits and the paddock to clearing up debris after an incident, there are always a variety of marshalling roles available at Castle Combe Circuit to suit all levels of experience.

‘Where do I fit in’, we hear you cry? Well, the circuit is always looking at expanding its team of volunteers and has trained thousands of people over the years who have thoroughly enjoyed assisting on race days and have gone on to assist at many other major motorsport events across the UK.

Richard Beard, Chief Marshal, explains. "Being a part of the Orange Army is something I have enjoyed for many years and one of the most rewarding jobs you can do. People often ask me how to get involved and what types of role could I be doing, and this is precisely what our Marshal Training Days are for.”

The Marshal Training Day has been running for many years and is open to everyone. "We have people attending who have marshalled here for a very long time, right through to complete beginners on these days,” Richard continues. “Your skill set and background is irrelevant as we are a friendly bunch and will take our time to train each and every one of you."
