Forge Action Day 2018 Brings Castle Combe Circuit Alive with Performance Car Action

Featuring the biggest names in the aftermarket tuning industry as well as thousands of incredibly modified club cars and endless track action, Forge Action Day once again became THE home of the country’s performance car scene when it descended upon Castle Combe Circuit on 8 September.

Loyally supported by local premium parts guru Forge Motorsport, 2018’s instalment of the Wiltshire circuit’s event proved to be one of the most successful yet, and it only takes one look at what was happening during the day to see why…

As with all of Combe’s ‘Action Day’ events, the backbone attraction was of course the never-ending sea of dedicated clubs that made it down for the day, bringing with them a fine and incredibly eclectic selection of sporty four-wheeled machinery for show-goers to admire.

Of the 200-odd groups that had booked the sold-out stand spaces, judged eventually managed to select their favourites to dish out awards to. Overall ‘Club of the Show’ went to Southern Subaru which stood out for its incredibly well laid-out display towards Tower corner. ‘Best Small Club’ was awarded to Swindon RS Owners’ Club for its compact-yet-mighty selection of both classic and modern blue oval-badged cars near the Chippenham Road area, with the ‘Best Large Club’ trophy being warmly received by the comprehensive A46 Modified outfit.

The Show and Shine competition was just as fiercely-fought, too, with the shortlisted 25 cars that made up the impressive stand all worthy of silverware in their own right. After some thorough inspections, however, the top three were finally unveiled: third going to Ben Harding and his supremely retro E30 BMW cabriolet, second to Peter Williams and his immaculate Mk2 VW Golf, and first to Shawn Preece with his insane, 1000bhp Toyota Supra that was as clean as it was powerful. A bonus award for 2018, the ‘Commentator’s Choice’ trophy was handed to Liam Miller and his Ford Escort Cosworth – a machine that looked like it’d just rolled off the production line. All winning owners received a premium Meguiar’s detailing goody bag for their efforts.

Just across the paddock, another highlight of all Forge Action Days was proving equally-as-popular: the Forge Motorsport Exhibitor Village. Featuring the very best names in the world of performance parts, this trade village was an incredible place for any project car owner to check out new parts and secure some serious deals from their favourite brands in the process.

A short trip trackside revealed plenty of live action taking place, too. Laced between the jam-packed public track time that attracted all manner of vehicles to be put through their paces, a trio of professional drifting displays (as well as the Meguiar’s/Forge Motorsport Top 25 parade) ensured there was always something spectacular to witness on the smooth Tarmac.

As the day drew to a close and Paul Hill’s stunningly modified ’79 Porsche 911 SC secured the coveted ‘Car of the Show’ award, things got even more exciting as local punter Peter Torevelle decided to choose the event as the backdrop to propose to partner, Vicky Ryan! “We both share a passion for cars, and it was our first time at Castle Combe. I thought it’d be an amazing location to pop the question,” Wimbourne-based Peter tells us. Congratulations to you both!
