Castle Combe Circuit will be commemorating a significant milestone for its CCRC GT Championship in 2020, with a day of celebrations and a special GT-themed grid at the Combe Challenge Race Day event (held on Saturday, 4th July).

With the circuit’s home championship reaching its impressive 45-year milestone, the occasion will be marked with not only the GT Championship, but also the addition of the GT Challenge, the Sports Racer Challenge and the AMOC GT Challenge series on the day, ensuring a unique and incredibly exciting day’s racing for all in attendance.

All previous champions from the long-running GT Championship will be invited along, with the series also boasting the likes of a grid walk, a drivers’ VIP lounge and plenty of photo and interview opportunities to signify the special occasion.

The fiercely-fought CCRC GT Challenge race will feature an impressive grid of GT cars, with a whopping £1000 prize up-for-grabs for the outright winner and another £250 for each class winner. The 45-minute race that features a rolling start is sure to offer up impressive wheel-to-wheel action throughout.

Known for their incredibly high speeds, the machines competing in the CCRC Sports Racer Challenge double-header will also provide a truly unmissable spectacle when they return to the Wiltshire circuit for the first time since the championship split in 2015. The 2x20-minute stints for these lightweight racers could see the fabled 1-minute lap time barrier being smashed if the weather conditions are on the drivers’ side.

The day will also play host to mid-season rounds of the venue’s other regular series, namely the CCRC FF Championship, the CCRC Saloons Championship and the CCRC Hot Hatch Challenge.

To add to the excitement, a trophy will be awarded to the driver achieving the overall fastest lap time of the day, in memory of former champion Brian Fisher, who sadly passed away towards the end of 2019.

Jo Lewkowicz, Castle Combe Circuit’s Racing Club Manager, was positive about the highly-anticipated event. “With the reunion of the past 45 years’ worth of champions, the day is shaping up to be an exciting one. It’s brilliant to see the sport’s racers returning to the grid for a double-header, with the addition of the ‘Global Light’ class. We will also have the GT Challenge which will attract some amazing cars with the added bonus of prize money! With the right conditions on the day, could someone beat the one-minute lap mark on the Circuits 70th anniversary year…?”
