With its ever popular ‘Saloon Car Championship’, bursting at the seams with entries, the Castle Combe Circuit is launching a new ‘Hot Hatch’ series for 2017.
The series is aimed at drivers with older ‘non-turbo’ cars such as the Peugeot 205 which are no longer eligible for the main championship.
Comprising four rounds spread throughout the year, the series will accept any front wheel drive car of any age, with four classes up to 2.1 litres.
Like the saloon car championship, engine tuning and upgrading of suspension and brakes will be permitted but there will be slightly more freedom in tyre choice, with treaded rubber from MSA list 1A, 1B and 1C being eligible.
Trophies for the podium finishers will be awarded to each of the classes at every round.
Steve Weston, Competitions Director of the Castle Combe Racing Club said, “Many competitive cars which previously took part in the saloon car championship, particularly the highly effective 205 Gti, are sitting around looking for somewhere to race. Our new series gives them the opportunity to compete at an affordable cost and we see no reason why the series should not grow into a popular championship in its own right. Meanwhile our flagship saloon car championship is there for those who want to race the latest machinery, with the trend moving more towards the turbo cars.”
Final regulations are still being refined, but a draft set is available online at http://www.ccracingclub.co.uk/ or on request from Jo Lewkowicz, the club’s coordinator at JoL@castlecombecircuit.co.uk or 01249 784160.
