Rain Fails to Dampen Spirits at Star-Studded Rallyday 2018

It was reportedly the first damp Rallyday event for over a decade, but the weather seen at 2018’s instalment of this ever-enthralling event (held at Castle Combe Circuit on 22 September) did very little in limiting the enjoyment offered to the thousands of hardy rallying fanatics in attendance.

Featuring non-stop action crammed into every last corner of the Wiltshire venue throughout the day, as well as plenty of static displays and more than a fair share of celebrity faces from the sport, Rallyday 2018 once again lived up to its reputation of being ‘Europe’s premier rally car show’.

“I’m overwhelmed! I didn’t realise the sheer size of the event and it was amazing to see many fans celebrating my victories from 30 years ago,” Italian two-time WRC champ Miki Biasion commented after his appearance on the show’s infamous Interview Stage.

With the likes of Elfyn Evans, Jimmy McRae and David Bogie providing equally-as-captivating chats up in the hot seat, show-goers were never too far away from rubbing shoulders with some of the most iconic names ever seen in rallying.

The event was used as an excuse to celebrate several key milestones, too, such as the 60th anniversary of the British Rally Championship, the 50th anniversary of the mighty Mk1 Ford Escort and the 40th birthday of the iconic Vauxhall Chevette.

This year’s coveted ‘Spirit of Rallyday’ trophy was handed to long-standing commentator and all-round rallying good-guy, Howard Davies. Howard’s bubbly spirit on the mic has played a crucial part to the success of this long-running event, something organisers were keen to recognise.
