During this unprecedented period of uncertainty in the UK and beyond, the Castle Combe Circuit team is livening things up for motorsport fans with ‘Combe Chat’ – a Facebook Live show that airs every Wednesday and Sunday at 7pm.
Hosted by Sales and Marketing Director, Tom Davis, and the circuit’s leading commentator, Chris Dawes, Combe Chat invites special guests along as the hosts discuss all things Castle Combe and motorsport.
We can now reveal that the special guest for the show due to air on Sunday, 5 April, will be none other than Alyn James – team principal and driver for Synchro Motorsport, Honda of the UK Manufacturing’s in-house race division.
ABOUT ALYN JAMES
Welshman Alyn started at Swindon’s Honda of the UK Manufacturing in 2001, and on his first day with the company joined Synchro Motorsport. Alyn’s first role within the team was as junior mechanic, building and designing the Synchro race cars that were entered into the European Endurance Championship.
A year later, Alyn became a No.1 mechanic, designing and manufacturing the electrical systems for the two cars Synchro made for the Production Class within the British Touring Car Championship. That same year, the team won the Driver and Team Championships, and became the first team in the world to win races and championships with a second-generation Honda Civic Type R.
Between 2003 and 2007, Alyn continued to work in British Touring Cars and developed engineering solutions for the Synchro team’s vehicles. In 2008, Alyn became team manager and in 2011 got the opportunity to become a team driver for the Synchro team, a role he still holds as well as being team principal.
Away from the race track, Alyn continues his role for Honda of the UK Manufacturing as a Powertrain and Durability Section Manager, which includes development of the powertrain, transmission and emissions testing for all vehicles produced at the Wiltshire site.
Alyn and the Synchro team have close links to Castle Combe Circuit. Not only is the venue the firm’s local track, but it also hosts the Dave Allan Trophy each year – a race to commemorate an ex-Honda of the UK Manufacturing employee who tragically passed away whilst testing back in 2012. Dave Allan was a friend and colleague of Alyn’s, with Alyn racing in all of the seven instalments of this event so far.
